Dear Royal Oak School Families,
All CBE families should have received a message from the Chief Superintendent on October 1, 2025 regarding the upcoming teachers’ strike and how it will impact your children and families in the upcoming days and possibly weeks ahead. I know that this will be a challenging time for our students, families, teachers, and support staff. My hope is that a successful agreement will be reached quickly between the Alberta Provincial Government and the ATA.
If you missed the message sent on October 1, here are the details that were shared:
At this time, the CBE is preparing for an Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) strike beginning on Monday, Oct. 6. Here is what this means for CBE families:
All classes will be cancelled. Do not send your child to school.
Transportation will be cancelled. Do not leave your child at a bus stop.
Other information:
- All school athletics, trips and extracurricular activities will be suspended or cancelled.
- Access to D2L and Google classroom will be turned off for students, staff and families.
- Most childcare/daycare facilities located in CBE schools will continue to operate.
- After-hours public rentals in schools will continue.
- Fees paid at the school for activities that have been cancelled may be adjusted once the strike concludes.
- The Alberta government has made financial and learning resources available to families:
- To access funds, eligible parents must create an account online. Registration and verification can be completed online.
- Families can also access a learning resources toolkit on the government’s website.
- We value the contributions of all employees who support student success, and we respect the bargaining process.
The CBE is committed to keeping families informed as the situation evolves. If anything changes before Oct. 6, families will be informed. The most up-to-date information can also be found on the labour action page.
Please note that Royal Oak School teachers and I will not have access to our email, Google Classrooms, our other system online platforms (School Messenger) throughout the strike. We will not be able to respond to any correspondence until the strike is concluded.
Based on CBE system direction, all school-based events planned for the month of October have been cancelled. Our Nature Play residency will be rescheduled for later in the school year and we look forward to our continued work with their team then. If you volunteered for a time slot, you will be receiving a cancellation notice shortly. Additionally, our school photo day will be re-scheduled once the strike has concluded.
It is our hope that we will see your children sooner than later.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp
Principal, Royal Oak School
