Dear Royal Oak School Families,
Mission Impossible: During the next week, students will continue to develop their movement and gymnastics skills in relation to larger equipment. To ensure the safety of our students during this activity we ask that students to follow some simple rules:
· All students are required to remove jewelry, head bands and watches.
· Students are encouraged to wear clothing that will allow a free range of movement.
· Students are required to remove socks and shoes to avoid slipping on the mats and equipment. However, if your child must keep their feet covered (i.e. warts) please send them with ‘grippy’ socks, if possible, or they will be required to put a bandage on the affected area.
· Students with long hair need to pull it back into a ponytail or braid
Read-a-thon Results: The 2026 Read-a-Thon results are in! The students of ROS should be incredibly proud of the reading they did. We received 353 time logs from students, who read a total of 209773 minutes (versus 185466 last year). The winners of the donut parties are: Mrs. Mercer’s grade 1 class, Mrs. Cook’s grade 2 class, Mrs. Daniel’s grade 3 class, and Mrs. Devereux’s grade 4 class.
Some fun facts: 88% of students who participated in the Read-a-Thon set a personal goal, and of those students, almost 70% of them reached their reading goal. Many thanks all the teachers who really encouraged their students and embraced Literacy Month. Thank you to our families for supporting your children’s efforts and for donating to this fundraiser.
Elev8 Lacrosse PE Residency: Thanks to the generous support of our ROS Parent Society, we are excited to welcome Elev8 Lacrosse to our school beginning Friday, April 17 through May 1, 2026. During this time, students will participate in a lacrosse residency designed to build physical literacy, teamwork, and fundamental movement skills. The program is led by professional coaches with NLL and NCAA experience and focuses on introducing students to the basics of lacrosse through engaging, skill-based sessions. Each class will have at least two opportunities to work directly with the Elev8 team over the course of the residency. To allow for safe use of equipment and adequate space, classes will rotate between indoor and outdoor PE sessions. As a result, we ask that students come prepared for outdoor activity and dress appropriately for the weather throughout these two weeks. We look forward to this exciting opportunity for our students!
Extra Set of Clothing: With the weather warming up and the snow melting, we now have the problem with puddles and mud near our school playground. We would appreciate it if you put an extra set of clothing (pants, shirt, socks and underwear) in your child’s backpack in the event they slip and fall in the water or mud.
Earth Day Spirit Day, Wednesday, April 22: Celebrate your appreciation for our home and beautiful planet Earth by dressing in nature-themed clothing. This might be simply wearing the colours blue and green or perhaps you might like to dress up like your favorite animal. You might choose to wear animal prints or floral patterns. You might want to wear a shirt with a picture of the mountains on it. Maybe you'd like to put flowers in your hair? Really, the options are almost endless
Grade 4’s Tour to WD Pratt School: On Thursday, May 7, our Grade 4 students attended a tour at WD Pratt School. They are also hosting an Open House that same evening, inviting families to the school to help with the transition to middle school. Please note that if your grade 4 child will be automatically designated and registered at WD Pratt School, unless you have notified the school that your child will be attending a different school for the 2026-27 school year.
School Council AGM Notification: You are invited to attend our School Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the school staff room. At this meeting, we will be filling open School Council positions and making important decisions for the upcoming school year. All parents and guardians are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Warm Regards,
Michelle Ryskamp & Nadine Duque
