Dear Royal Oak School Families,
This last week was an incredibly active and engaging time at Royal Oak School, with many meaningful learning opportunities for students across all grade levels. Our Nature Play residency provided students with hands-on outdoor experiences that encouraged curiosity, creativity, and a deeper connection to the natural environment. In the gym, students took part in our exciting “Mission Impossible” activities. On Wednesday, April 15, our Grade 3 and 4 students enjoyed their field trips, which were wonderful opportunities to extend classroom learning into real-world experiences at Telus Spark and Aggie Days. We appreciate the support of staff and volunteers who helped make these outings successful. We were also thrilled to kick off our ELEV8 Lacrosse residency on Friday. Students will have the opportunity to build foundational skills and learn more about the game in an engaging and inclusive environment.
Looking ahead, we anticipate another action-packed week as both our Nature Play and ELEV8 residencies continue. On Wednesday, we will celebrate Earth Day and encourage families to take time together to recognize and care for our environment in a way that is meaningful to you. On Thursday evening, we look forward to seeing many of you at our School Council Spring Family Dance, which will be held at WD Pratt School — a wonderful opportunity to connect as a community and have some fun together. Please also note that there will be no school on Friday, as our staff will be participating in the CBE’s system-wide annual Indigenous Education Professional Learning Day, focused on building and applying foundational knowledge of Indigenous Education for all employees.
Elev8 Lacrosse PE Residency: Thanks to the generous support of our ROS Parent Society, we are excited to welcome Elev8 Lacrosse to our school beginning Friday, April 17 through May 1, 2026. During this time, students will participate in a lacrosse residency designed to build physical literacy, teamwork, and fundamental movement skills. The program is led by professional coaches with NLL and NCAA experience and focuses on introducing students to the basics of lacrosse through engaging, skill-based sessions. Each class will have at least two opportunities to work directly with the Elev8 team over the course of the residency. To allow for safe use of equipment and adequate space, classes will rotate between indoor and outdoor PE sessions. As a result, we ask that students come prepared for outdoor activity and dress appropriately for the weather throughout these two weeks. We look forward to this exciting opportunity for our students!
Earth Day Spirit Day, Wednesday, April 22: Celebrate your appreciation for our home and beautiful planet Earth by dressing in nature-themed clothing. This might be simply wearing the colours blue and green or perhaps you might like to dress up like your favorite animal. You might choose to wear animal prints or floral patterns. You might want to wear a shirt with a picture of the mountains on it. Maybe you'd like to put flowers in your hair? Really, the options are almost endless
Extra Set of Clothing: With the weather warming up and the snow melting, we now have the problem with puddles and mud near our school playground. We would appreciate it if you put an extra set of clothing (pants, shirt, socks and underwear) in your child’s backpack in the event they slip and fall in the water or mud.
Grade 4’s Tour to WD Pratt School: On Thursday, May 7, our Grade 4 students attended a tour at WD Pratt School. They are also hosting an Open House that same evening, inviting families to the school to help with the transition to middle school. Please note that if your grade 4 child will be automatically designated and registered at WD Pratt School, unless you have notified the school that your child will be attending a different school for the 2026-27 school year.
Morning Supervision Reminder: Student safety is a top priority. Please be reminded that school supervision begins at 8:31 a.m. each day. Students should not be dropped off or arrive at school prior to this time, as there is no staff supervision available before 8:31 a.m. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us ensure a safe start to each school day.
Registration for My 1st Ride is Now Open: On May 23 & 24, the CBE and its partners will host the My 1st Ride bus orientation program. This free event is designed to familiarize first-time school bus riders and their families with the experience of taking the yellow bus to and from school. Families are encouraged to register to secure a spot.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp & Nadine Duque
