Dear Royal Oak School Families,
Many thanks to our School Council for coordinating and helping our students write Notes of Kindness for our staff and spoiling us with treats on February 12 in honor of Valentines’ Day. Our staff was so touched by the kind words shared by our students. We are so blessed to have such a supportive parent community. Wishing you all a wonderful Family Day long weekend and a reminder that there is no school on Monday, February 17, 2025.
Alien Inline Skating PE Residency: This School Council sponsored enhanced learning experience, begins Tuesday, February 18 and runs until Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Through this program, our students will have access to a certified inline skating instructor and a complete set of rollerblade rental skates with protective gear. Learning how to inline skate develops skills and confidence that transfers to many other activities and helps students remain active for life. To have a successful learning experience, we need lots of volunteers! We need parents to help students with putting on and taking off the skates and protective gear. There are OVER 100 VOLUNTEER SPOTS available for this fun-filled in-school event. Sign up here: ROS Volunteers: 2025 Alien Inline Skating
Teacher Weekly Messages: As part of our commitment to on-going communication with families about student learning, our teachers post weekly updates in their Google Classrooms. Please make sure that you take the time to read these important messages to find out more about what your child is doing at school, special events, and requests for project materials. These messages can also be shared with your child. Please use them to help guide conversations and to find out even more about your child’s learning. These conversations will help extend their interest, engagement and understanding. We thank you for being part of your child’s learning journey.
Care and Responsibility of Personal Property: Please note that the school is unable to assume responsibility for the personal property of students. Students wishing to bring toys, stuffies, trading cards, jewelry and special personal items, do so at their own risk. The school strongly discourages these types of items from coming to school. If you happen to find items at home that do not belong to your child, please email the classroom teacher as they may know more about missing items and who we can reunite the item with.
Lost and Found: Our lost and found continues to grow! If your child is missing an item of clothing, please pop into the school. We also kindly remind you to label your child’s belongings with your child’s name, so that when items go missing and are found, they are easier to return to their rightful owner. Please note that after Friday, February 28, these items will be collected and donated to charity in order to clear up our school’s front vestibule.
School Attendance and Late Arrivals: A friendly reminder that school starts promptly at 8:37am every morning. We understand that the traffic around the school is very busy, especially on these colder mornings, but we ask that families please plan accordingly to arrive at school on time. There is adult supervision outside from 8:22-8:37, and students may enter the school between 8:32-8:37. The doors are closed promptly at the 8:37 bell, and attendance is done by teachers right away. Students who arrive after 8:37 must enter through the office, where they are given a Welcome slip, and their entry time is recorded and subsequently entered in to PowerSchool. Students who consistently arrive late to school miss valuable instructional time, as well as cause a disruption to the classroom learning that has already begun. We appreciate you taking this information into consideration when bringing your students to school in the morning.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp
Principal, Royal Oak School
