Dear Royal Oak School Families,
Student Assessment and Reporting: It’s that time of year again when families receive written feedback regarding their child’s progress at school. Report cards will be viewable online for Royal Oak School students beginning Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Report cards are one of several mechanisms that teachers use to communicate student progress along with formalized processes such as parent-teachers conferences. Additionally, teachers informally communicate student achievement through such means as email, phone calls, or face-to-face communication with families. Taken together, ongoing communication is vital to ensure student success. Ongoing communication supports students and families in building an understanding of individual student achievement over the course of the reporting period, so the information communicated in the report card is both expected and easily understood. Should you have questions or comments about your child’s progress or information contained within their report card, please connect with your child’s teacher. Please note that our next round of school conferences will occur on March 19 and 20, 2026.
Report Card Comment Structure: To provide clarity, conciseness, and consistency for students and families when communicating and reporting assessment information, all report card comments include areas of strength and areas of growth, in bullet form. Each comment will include four elements: proficient descriptor, stem/ outcome, evidence of learning, and success criteria. Please be aware of the proficiency descriptors and how they align with the indicators of 1 to 4.

Pink Shirt Day: On Wednesday, February 25 we will celebrate Pink Shirt Day. We invite all students to wear pink that day in support of welcoming, caring, respectful, safe, and inclusive school communities. This day gives us an opportunity to be kind and lift each other up. We know that building healthy relationships is one of the best ways to prevent bullying and create safe environments. Our Grade 1 team will be leading our Pink Shirt Day assembly at 2:15pm. These classes will highlight the importance of kindness, belonging, and friendship.
Developing Independence - Lunch Independence:
Please help your child practice opening lunch containers and food packages at home. Being able to manage their lunch independently at school builds confidence and reduces frustration. Consistency and practice help children feel successful and capable.
CBE Student Code of Conduct: Part of our annual requirements is to apprise families and students of the CBE Student Code of Conduct. Administrative Regulation (AR) 6005 provides in-depth information about how these matters are managed within the CBE. Additionally, Royal Oak School has established a method of supporting students to work through these situations. In a K-grade 4 school, we hold the belief that we all make mistakes, that these mistakes do not make us bad people, and those mistakes are opportunities for learning. It is extremely important to distinguish the behaviour from the person. For more on our Code of Conduct visit our Royal Oak School webpage. For more on CBE Student Discipline Administrative Regulation visit www.cbe.ab.ca
Teacher Weekly Messages: As part of our commitment to on-going communication with families about student learning, our teachers send home weekly updates via SchoolMessenger. Please make sure you read these important messages to find out more about what your child is doing at school, community walks, special events, and requests for project materials. These messages can be shared with your child. Please use them to help guide conversations and to find out even more about your child’s learning. These conversations will help extend their interest, engagement and understanding. We thank you for being part of your child’s learning journey.
