Grade 4 Year End Farewell: If you are the parent of a grade 4 student, please mark your calendars as we will be holding the Grade 4 Farewell Assembly on Wednesday, June 24th in the morning from 10:45 – 11:45 in our gymnasium. We will be able to welcome only two family members per grade 4 student to attend this event.  More information is coming from your child’s grade 4 classroom teacher. We are grateful that our School Council will be sponsoring a pizza lunch for our grade 4 students that day. Permission notices will be sent home in the coming week.

Library Book Returns: With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we need to make sure that our library books are returned and accounted for. Please take some time to look around the house and return any overdue books that belong to the school. All books must be returned to the Learning Commons by Monday, June 15, 2026.

Bus Students - Change of Plans: As the weather warms up and more students are choosing to bike or walk home, we want to kindly remind families to inform the office or come directly to the bus line if there is a change in your child’s end-of-day transportation. If your child is biking, walking, or getting picked up instead of taking the bus, it’s important that we are aware to ensure all students are accounted for and get home safely. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal time smooth and secure for everyone.

Jump Rope for Heart: Students will participate in our annual Jump Rope for Heart Day on Thursday, June 11th. Leading up to the event we will learn about healthy habits, the importance of movement and ways we can stay fit for life. On Jump Day there will be different skipping centers, activities and challenges set up in the gym and on the compound for them to move through and have fun. We are not asking families to fundraise for this event, but if this cause is important to you then please feel free to donate at the link below. https://jumpropeforheart.crowdchange.ca/119143

Planning for the 2026-2027 School Year: As new student registrations continue to come in and some existing families identifying that they are moving out of our designated communities over the summer, our student numbers continue to fluctuate for the 2026-2027 school year.  In addition, our school was recently notified that we would receive funding for two additional teachers, as part of the Alberta Government Class Size Reduction Grant. These have been specified for our grade 1 and 4 classes. We have adjusted our classroom numbers at some of our grade levels based on these changes; four kindergarten classes (2 x AM and 2 x PM), five classes at grade 1, five classes at grade 2, five classes at grade 3, and six classrooms at grade 4. With these changes, we continue to work on creating balanced class lists for the coming school year. Teachers will be reaching out to families by email / School Messenger on Thursday, August 27 to notify families of their classroom.

Lost and Found: Our Lost & Found is still very full and we would like to connect items with their rightful owners. Please stop by the school to reclaim your child’s missing items. Any unclaimed items will be donated by June 30. 2026.

Royal Oak School Council Updates

Did you know that as a parent or caregiver at Royal Oak School you are part of School Council? At Calgary Board of Education, all parents and caregivers of students are considered members of school councils. This means that everyone is welcome to participate and share input in ways they have capacity for. Here are some of the ways ROS Council – including all ROS families and caregivers – helped positively shape students’ experiences at Royal Oak School this year.

Ten Ways ROS Parents & Caregivers Contributed in 2025-26

1. Organized vendors and volunteers for eight Fun Lunch lunches and five Fun Snacks. Purchases and donations made through Healthy Hunger raised $4,000 this year for ROS learning needs and supplies.

2. Offered ROS families opportunities to attend events like the fall welcome back picnic, family boardgame night, winter & spring school dances, free pancake breakfast (in partnership with William D. Pratt), and year-end carnival.

3. Encouraged ROS students to read 209,773 minutes during read-a-thon. Additional literacy month activities included a used book drive and sale, dress up day, and Crowfoot library event. In total, over $2,600 was raised for the school through literacy month. Thank you to all families and caregivers who participated and/or donated!

4. Offered each ROS student a piece of fresh fruit on three Fridays throughout the school year. Donations from families and caregivers were also used to stock the student snack bin in the office and to buy treats for students at school-wide events.

5. Purchased learning resources for math literacy luggage including books, games, and cards that ROS students may borrow from the library.

 6. Showed appreciation for ROS teachers and staff by purchasing two meals, drinks, and snacks for evening-based school events (E.g. meet the teacher, learning conferences). Volunteers donated or prepared dishes for the staff appreciation potluck. At Christmas, teachers and staff also received coffee/tea/hot chocolate and goodies.

7. Recruited volunteers for school-wide events such as the Terry Fox run, jacket racket (used winter clothing donation drive), school photos, the Scholastic Book Fair, Nature Play residencies in the fall and spring, and sports day.

8. Promoted school community by organizing the sale of ROS Spirit Wear to students and staff, launching the ROS Council Instagram page, submitting articles to the community newsletter, attending two community of school council meetings, and entering volunteers into a monthly $20 gift card draw.

9. Secured a $500 grant through Alberta School Council Engagement. Funds will be used for parenting and caregiver educational resources and a presentation. Also secured a $1,000 grant for the Stampede breakfast from the Ward Community Event Fund.

10. Organized volunteers in the fall and winter to assist with Hug & Go drop-off lane and parking safety. In the spring, reintroduced use of traffic cones to help improve pedestrian visibility and safety in ROS crosswalks.

Thank you so much to all ROS families & caregivers for their support of ROS Council activities! Together we helped make ROS a better place for students, staff, and volunteers this school year. Wishing all ROS families and caregivers a nice summer. See you in the fall!
