Dear Royal Oak School Families,
Sports Day: On Friday, we held another fun and action-packed Royal Oak School Sports Day. The weather was perfect, and the students were so happy connecting with one another throughout the morning. Thank you to the many parents who gave their time and energy to help run many of the stations. We also want to thank our School Council for providing a cold treat after this special event.
Planning for Next Year: As new student registrations continue to come in and some existing families identifying that they are moving outside of our community over the summer, our student numbers continue to fluctuate for the 2025-2026 school year. Currently, we are planning our staffing conservatively using projected numbers of 585 students. We have planned our classroom numbers as the following: Two AM and two PM kindergarten classes, five classes of grade 1, five classes of grade 2, five classes of grade 3, and six classes of grade 4. Please note that we are no longer taking classroom requests. A significant amount of time and energy has been dedicated to creating balanced classrooms these past two weeks. When creating classes, we consider several factors including student friendships, the ratio of boys to girls, students with complex learning needs, students with English as an additional language, as well as the social and emotional needs of students. As staffing within CBE is ongoing throughout the spring and summer, we are unable to announce student placements until the return to school at the end of August. Over the next several weeks we will share any staffing changes for the 2025-26 school year.
Grade 4 Year End Farewell: If you are the parent of a grade 4 student, please mark your calendars as we will be holding the Grade 4 Farewell Assembly on Wednesday, June 25th in the morning from 11:00 – 12:00 in our gymnasium. We will be able to welcome only two family members per grade 4 student to attend this event. More information is coming from your child’s grade 4 classroom teacher. We are grateful that our School Council will be sponsoring a pizza lunch for our grade 4 students that day. Permission notices will be sent home this coming week.
Bus Students - Change of Plans: As the weather warms up and more students are choosing to bike or walk home, we want to kindly remind families to inform the office or come directly to the bus line if there is a change in your child’s end-of-day transportation. If your child is biking, walking, or getting picked up instead of taking the bus, it’s important that we are aware to ensure all students are accounted for and get home safely. Thank you for helping us keep dismissal time smooth and secure for everyone.
Lost & Found: Our Lost & Found is overflowing again with jackets, water bottles, lunch containers, and other items looking to be reunited with their owners! As we approach the end of the school year, we kindly ask families to check the Lost & Found before the end of June. All unclaimed items will be donated or repurposed after that time. Feel free to stop by during school hours—we’d love to help these items find their way home!
Library Book Returns: With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we need to make sure that our library books are returned and accounted for. Please take some time to look around the house and return any overdue books that belong to the school. All books must be returned to the Learning Commons by Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Transportation Registration is Now Open: Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2025-2026 school year. Registration is available using your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how to create one.) Families must register by June 22, 2025 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 8 deadline will be delayed. Confirmed routes are posted in late August. For those who register after the June 22 deadline, it may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus. Transportation can be cancelled with no financial impact by submitting the cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2025.
Wishing you a great week ahead!
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp,
Principal, Royal Oak School
