Dear Royal Oak School Families,

March Student-Led School Conferences:

This year, on the evening of Thursday March 19, 2026 and Friday March 20, 2026 Royal Oak School March Learning Conferences will be conducted as Student-Led Conferences.  Conference times are 4:00-8:00pm on Thursday evening and 8:30 –11:30am on Friday. From 11:30-1:30 time will be set aside for individual student meetings arranged by teachers with families as necessary. A Student-Led Conference is an opportunity for you to better understand your child’s learning by looking at samples of work and taking part in learning tasks that are a daily part of your child’s learning in the classroom. This means that your child will take the lead in sharing pieces of their work and sharing some hands-on experiences that they engage in at school.

Conference schedules open for families to book times beginning at 4:30 on Monday, March 9 and will close on midnight on Wednesday March 18, 2026. Sign in to Power School to do so.  Information of How-to:  https://cbe.ab.ca/support/Pages/MyCBE-PowerSchool-School-Conferences.aspx

You will still sign up for a specific time. You will arrive at your child’s class at this time, with your child. This will be your start time, and you can stay for 30 to 60 minutes to talk to your child about their work in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science or Social Studies and to participate in learning activities that have been prepared by your child’s teacher.  For each class, there will be two families scheduled at every 30-minute interval so there will be times that there might be several families in the classroom at the same participating in Student Led Conferences. During your conference time, you will still be able to connect with your child’s teacher to talk about celebrations and next steps in learning. Please contact the school or email your child’s teacher if you have any questions about Student Led Conferences. Mrs. Weber is only available for booked conferences during the evening of Thursday March 19, 2026. Looking forward to seeing you at school with your child.  If you have any questions, please contact the school's office.

CBE Bullying Framework: This last week on Wednesday, February 25, we celebrated Pink Shirt Day.  Pink Shirt Day was an opportunity for us to stand together against bullying and to reinforce the importance of kindness, inclusion, and respect in our school. Classes then watched a wonderful video created by our grade 1 team, highlighting the importance of kindness at Royal Oak School. We would like to share CBE Bullying Framework, in an effort to develop a shared understanding of bullying, and the difference between conflict, rude, mean/ aggressive, and bullying behavior. At school, we work hard to help students understand the difference between these types of social interactions and how to best respond in each instance. We stress the importance of using our words to ask others to stop unexpected behaviours, to walk away, and / or get the support of an adult to help solve the issue. We appreciate parent support in developing positive problem solving and social skills.

Developing Independence - Giving Time Before Stepping In:
When your child is working through a task, try giving them time to attempt it before stepping in to help. Productive struggle supports resilience, critical thinking, and confidence. Children learn best when they know it is okay to try, make mistakes, and try again.

School Council Meeting: Our next School Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 4. We will be sharing updates about school planning and looking ahead to next year, and we truly value hearing your thoughts and perspectives. School Council is an important way for families to stay connected and involved in our work. We hope you are able to join us and be part of the conversation. Our grade 4 team of teachers will also be joining us to share highlights of the great learning opportunities happening in their classrooms. The meeting is a hybrid meeting, meaning that you can attend online. Please use the following link: Join the meeting now

Viewing Report Cards: Families can view online report cards using your MyCBE parent account. Report cards can also be downloaded and printed by families at home. Alberta Education Assurance Survey: The Alberta Education Assurance Survey is an important opportunity for students, parents, and teachers to share their perspectives on learning, school climate, and overall well-being at Royal Oak School. Students in Grades 4, along with parents and teachers, are invited to participate. Parents should have received their random-access codes via email, which are required to complete the survey. Please access the link HERE. Random-access codes were emailed to families approximately two weeks ago.
