Dear Royal Oak School Families,
On Friday, May 23 we held our Open House for new students coming to Royal Oak School in September for the 2025-26 school year. It was wonderful to meet so many new students and families. I loved seeing the excitement of our new kindergarten students as they explored the school and kindergarten classroom.
It is amazing to think that this coming week is our last in the month of May. These next five weeks of the school year are jam packed with activities, final units of learning, field trips, year-end assessments, and so much more.
Bike & Roll to School Day is Coming Wednesday, May 28: Join us in riding your bike, scooter, rollerblades, skateboard to school on May 28th. Wheels will be stored securely in the gym for the day. Drop off and pick up - for ALL grades - is the back compound/gym doors. LOTS of volunteers are still needed to make this event run! Sign up here to help out:ROS Volunteers: Bike & Roll to School Day Our Kindergarten students are welcome to participate too! Tags will be coming home after the long weekend and will be needed to identify wheels at the end of the day. Have your student clearly write their first/last name, grade #, and teacher (see photo for example) and bring it with their wheels on May 28! One participating student from each class will be chosen to receive a gift card from Tim Horton's , (courtesy of the Royal Oak School Council). For those students who ride the bus and are unable to ride to school, we ask that you leave your wheels at home. Instead, we invite parents to take a photo for their child biking, rollerblading, skateboarding or scootering. Please send this photo with your child’s name (first and last), classroom teacher, and grade to Ms. Kim Dawson, at kadawson@cbe.ab.ca by no later than Tuesday, May 27. One student from this group of bus riders will be selected and receive a gift card as well.
Sports Day is coming! Our annual Sports Day is Friday June 6th from 10:00 –12:00. We are once again looking for an enthusiastic group of volunteers to help run games and activities on this exciting day! Mark your calendars and come out and play! We need volunteers to help with setup, running stations, take down and distributing treat to students afterwards. Please consider volunteering your time for this fun event: ROS Volunteers: 2025 Sports Day
CBE 2025-2026 Calendar: The CBE has published its 2025-26 school calendar. Feedback regarding students starting prior to September long weekend was taken into consideration for the 2025-26 school year. Therefore, the first day for students will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Once approved, we will share our Royal Oak School calendar that outlines conference dates, school hours, recess and lunch breaks, etc.
Library Book Returns: With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we need to make sure that our library books are returned and accounted for. Please take some time to look around the house and return any overdue books that belong to the school.
Transportation Eligibility and Walk Zones: Transportation eligibility distance and how it is calculated is changing and will now be measured by driving distance instead of walking distance. That means next year, more students will become eligible to take the bus and school walk zones will look different. To find our school’s walk zone map, visit CBE’s Find a School Tool and follow the instructions provided on our website. To learn more about transportation eligibility and walk zones read the Walk Zone news story.
Transportation Registration is Now Open: Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2025-2026 school year. Registration is available using your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how to create one.) Families must register by June 8, 2025 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year. We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 8 deadline will be delayed. Confirmed routes are posted in late August. For those who register after the June 8 deadline, it may take until mid-October before your child is able to ride the bus. Transportation can be cancelled with no financial impact by submitting the cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2025.
2025-2026 Transportation Service Levels & Proposed Fees: The proposed fees for transportation service for the 2025-2026 school year are as follows: $360/year for those students designated to yellow school bus transportation and $180/year for one-way kindergarten transportation
Wishing you a great week ahead!
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp,
Principal, Royal Oak School
