Dear Royal Oak School Families,

Jacket Racket: Royal Oak School will be supporting Jacket Racket this year by collecting donated items between Thursday, November 5th to Monday, November 17th.  We will accept donations of winter outdoor clothing so that they can be redistributed to children who need winter clothing in schools across the city. Jacket Racket accepts gently used/clean or new winter jackets, snow pants, hats, mittens and scarves. Boots are not included. You can send donated items to Royal Oak School during the time window mentioned above. Some of our Grade 4 students will be collecting and organizing donated items. Thank you advance for your generosity.

School Grounds Restoration Project: Over the past number of years, we have noticed increasing erosion and drainage concerns in the area around our playground and grade 3 doors. To ensure the long-term safety of our students and the stability of the grounds, a restoration project has begun this week. During this time, you may notice construction fencing and equipment in place around the hill. We kindly ask for your support in reminding students to stay well clear of the fenced-off area and to follow all posted safety directions. These precautions are essential to keep everyone safe while the work is being completed. The project is expected to take approximately two weeks. Once finished, we look forward to having a safer and more secure area near the playground for our students to enjoy. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve and maintain our school environment.

School Conferences: Our next set of School Conferences are scheduled for Thursday November 28 and Friday November 29.  Nov. 28 is a regular school day for students.  Nov 29 there is no school for all students.  The booking system will open to parents at 4:00pm on Thursday, November 20th and will close on Thursday, November 27th at 8:00am. To book a School Conference, please login to your MyCBE/PowerSchool parent account and click the link for School Conferences.

Teachers look forward to this opportunity to communicate openly about student learning, especially with respect to your child's areas of strength and areas of growth.  We also see this as an opportunity to build and sustain respectful relationships that allow both parties to share information and develop strategies to support student success. These 15-minute conferences are important for families to attend, along with your child, as they form part of the ongoing communication regarding student progress throughout the year. Please note that if you ever have questions about your child’s learning, we invite you to contact your child’s teacher directly – communication is not just at conference time. Due to the strike break in October, teachers will be speaking to a more limited body of student learning evidence than typically in November.

Scholastic Book Fair: We are excited to announce the return of our school’s Scholastic book fair! It will be held during conferences on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore new and bestselling titles right here at our school. Best of all, every purchase made at the fair supports our school and encourages a love for reading among our students! The fair hours are Thursday 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Friday 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. We look forward to seeing you there and thank you for your support in fostering a love for reading in our school community. Volunteers are requested for this event.  A valid police clearance and updated annual volunteer form will be required.
