Welcome back and Happy New Year everyone

We hope that everyone had a great break and classes are hard at work moving on from where they left off in the curriculum.  I wanted to thank everyone for helping to send their children to school dressed for the weather during this nasty cold snap. For those who do not know, we do not go outside when temperatures are -20 Celsius or below.  Students have been instructed to come to the front doors if no one is still at the doors when they arrive.  They have been instructed to ring the buzzer on the right hand side of the door and they will be let in.  If your child goes home for lunch, please drop them off at the front doors to enter the school during these cold snaps as supervision is being done elsewhere inside the school.  On the good news side, it looks like this cold snap is ending early next week and hopefully that recent cold weather is all we have to endure this winter!

Adolescent Brain Development | Family & Caregiver Well-Being Session

This is the second (of five) sessions available for families and caregivers, this time focusing on 'brain development in adolescence'.

SCHOOL COUNCIL CORNER – EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Happy New Year Royal Oak!

Next Fundraising Society & School Council Meeting is coming up on Monday, January 22 @ 6.30pm with our CBE Trustee Dana Downey attending. What questions or concerns would you like to share with her? Email ROSchoolcouncil@gmail.com

Traffic and the safety of our students, parents and staff continues to be a MAJOR concern around Royal Oak. Here are a few reminders –

  • Parking is not allowed within 5 metres of a stop sign, yield sign or crosswalk (marked or unmarked)
  • Model and encourage your children to ONLY cross at crosswalks and corners so that they are seen by drivers
  • Stopping to pick up or drop off your child/children should only be done when parked against the curb and off the roadway to allow for both the safety of your child/children and for traffic flow to continue

For any parents/caregivers witnessing traffic infractions, the safest and most efficient way to respond is to continue reporting incidents to either the Police Non-Emergency Line at (403) 266-1234, calling 311 or submitting an online report at Traffic service requests (calgary.ca)

We ask that each parent and caregiver is helping to create a safe and respectful environment for our community by following traffic rules.
