Fall Back

Just a reminder to set your clocks back 1 hour when you go to bed on Saturday night.

Veterans Food Drive

Starting on Monday our school will be participating in the Veterans food drive.  For families that want to participate, we would ask that you send in non-perishable food items.  Each grade team will be given a box to collect donations in for the month of November.  Here is a list of items that you could send:

Canned fruit and vegetables, crackers, canned soup, rice, pasta, cereal, beans, canned fish, personal hygiene products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant) and other non-perishable items.

Thanks for your support

Halloween Fun

It was great to see so many kids dressed up on Halloween Day.  As you can imagine the energy in the school was palpable!  Please see the attached images for a fun classroom activity called “It’s not a pumpkin, it is a _____.”  Classes were given a pumpkin to decorate in a creative way where they could let their imaginations loose!  See photos!!!

U R Strong

If you have not signed up for a U R Strong membership, please click on the following link: FREE Parent Membership.  This program is being implemented school wide and there are many resources that can help you when your child is having friendship issues.

Bullying – the use of this term is often misunderstood and over used.  Please click on the following link to read more https://urstrong.com/resource/bullying-what-schools-are-getting-wrong/

Lost and Found

Just a reminder that if student names are not on coats, gloves, lunch kits etc. it makes it very difficult to return them to the proper owner.  We have also had many instances where students who have the same items have also taken them home without knowing because no names were on supplies. We will be placing lost and found items out at the Thursday, Nov. 23 conferences for parents to see if they recognize any of their child’s supplies.  Please note that any unclaimed items will be donated to charity on Dec., 21.

SCHOOL COUNCIL CORNER – EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Next Fundraising Society & School Council Meetings – Monday, November 20 @ 6.30pm!

JACKET RACKET COLLECTION has started!!

Royal Oak School is now accepting donations for Jacket Racket until Thursday, November 16.

There will be a large box in the front office of the school to bring clean winter clothing (jackets, snow pants, mitts, and toques). These will be donated to children and schools across the city who are in need of warm winter clothing. If you could please put items in a bag and/or group mittens and outfits together it would be appreciated!

This is a good chance to clean out last year's too small items as we head towards the coldest season of the year!

FUNDRAISING SOCIETY NEWS!

UR Strong continues to be used throughout the school, and I don't know about you, by my kids are saying they're finding it better this year, and easier to interact with their peers. Have you heard language such as “friendship fires”, or “mean on purpose”? It's part of the language used to teach healthy friendships and as parents we have access to it to! You can sign up for a free parent account and learn what they're learning. And maybe just maybe, have a clue what they're talking about. So check it out, and learn to speak the language your kids are speaking. www.urstrong.com

Have a great weekend!
