Parent Focus Group Invitation from Alberta Education

On Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, Alberta Education will host a focus group with the intention of seeking feedback from parents. The focus group will meet from 7 - 8:30 p.m. via Zoom. Purpose: To collect insight from a parent perspective to update the old “My Child's Learning: A Parent Resource" website into a brand new space that will be hosted on new.LearnAlberta.ca. 10 – 12 parents will be identified from metro, urban and rural school divisions, representing children of varying grade ranges (K-12) to participate in this focus group.

Please share this “expression of interest" survey with your school communities as you deem appropriate (school council, engaged parents, etc.).

It will remain open until Monday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.

Message from City of Calgary

Please see the pdf from the City of Calgary regarding the storm pond across the street from the school – invasive fish species. See Resources.

Dogs not allowed on School Grounds

We have many students at our school who are scared of dogs and this a reminder that dogs are not allowed on school yards/playgrounds. Please see the following City Bylaw for more information: https://www.calgary.ca/bylaws/dogs.html

Thanks for your help with this.

Child and Youth Well-Being Webinars

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

Child and Youth Well-Being:
A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians

CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.

Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.

The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.

Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

U R Strong

If you don’t already have a free parent account for U R Strong and want one, please contact Mr. Hamby at ghhamby@cbe.ab.ca. Here is an article about being a friendship coach that you might find helpful: https://urstrong.com/resource/think-of-yourself-as-a-friendship-coach/

Labeling Student Coats, Gloves etc.

Our lost and found is already getting full and we would ask that you please label your child’s clothing/supplies (coats, snow pants, gloves, lunch kits etc.) with your child’s first initial and last name. This will make it possible to return it when found or if they come home with the wrong shoes/lunch kit/boots etc., you can return them to the school. Inside the front doors, we have our lost and found items. FYI - unclaimed items will be bagged up and donated to charity at the winter break and at the end of June.
