Nut Aware School – PLEASE READ
We have several students at our school who have life threatening allergies to nuts and nut products. We ask that you do NOT send any products for snacks or lunch that contain nuts for your child. We thank you for your help with this critical step in keeping all our kids safe.
U R Strong School
We are excited to announce that we continue to be a U R Strong School! This program is part of our Health and Wellbeing curriculum for all grades at ROS. The focus of this program is to teach students how to navigate friendship difficulties and build positive friendships. As part of the membership fee, parents can also register for a U R Strong membership for free. There are many resources that parents might find helpful in coaching their child through what can be some turbulent waters as students move through their school years.
You are invited to take advantage of a FREE Parent Membership to access hundreds of resources – including an 8 session video series. This will allow you to learn the same language & strategies being taught in the classroom through the Friendology 101 curriculum. We hope that, as a URSTRONG Family, you will reinforce the important messages of empowerment, self-compassion, & kindness at home.
School Contacts
Please refer to the following link should you need to get in touch with your child’s teacher: https://royaloak.cbe.ab.ca/staff
Please note that teachers’ days are very busy and they cannot take phone calls during the day. The best way to contact them is via email and they will do their best to reply promptly.
Safety Around the School and Student Pick Up Drop Off
Please make sure that you are on the look out for kids when driving around the school. Students are not always thinking about safety and we need the adults to be on “the watch.”
During peak hours, at drop off and pick up at the end of the day, parents should not enter the school parking lot unless you or your child has an injury that warrants it or you need to use the handicapped parking. Please also lead by example and do not cut through the parking lot or J-Walk – please use the sidewalk.
Hug & Go – in the AM only, please note that the Hug & Go in front of the school is a quick drop off zone where students can exit vehicles on the curbside and move to their entry doors. Please do not park or leave your car in this area in the morning.
Terry Fox Run – Sept. 20 at 11:00 with Pratt
Please see school messenger sent Friday afternoon.
SCHOOL COUNCIL & FUNDRAISING SOCIETY NEWS – EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
THANK YOU ROYAL OAK!
· We were thrilled with the turnout of approximately 25 families who came out for the Welcome Back chalking. We hope that all the colourful art work has brightened your day!
· What a great evening for Picnic in the Park! Thank you for spending the evening with our community – catching up with familiar friends and meeting some new ones too.
· SHOUT OUT to all our drop off parents/caregivers. We KNOW that our school streets are busy and most people have been kind and patient as we settle into remembering where it is safe and unsafe to drop students off, park and/or turn around. Please continue to follow the rules of the road, respect our neighbours and help each other out! Protecting our children should ALWAYS come first.
Mark your Calendars!!
1) Monthly School Council/Fundraising Society meeting – Monday, September 9 at 6.30pm! This is our first monthly meeting with school administration where we have the chance to discuss issues impacting our school, hear what’s happening in the CBE and highlight upcoming events. All parents & caregivers are encouraged to attend! More information can be found on the Royal Oak School Parents Group | Facebook
2) Casino Fundraiser – October 25 & 26, 2024! Casino Fundraisers are the most lucrative opportunity for us to raise funds to enhance the educational experience at Royal Oak School. Our last fundraiser brought in $77,000 for the school. We need approximately 40 volunteers to make this event happen – roles are simple and there’s lots of supervision and support available. Sign up for a fun shift where you get to connect with other ROS parents & community members while we raise funds for our school. Sign up here: ROS Volunteers: 2024 ROS Casino Volunteers!
