ROYAL OAK SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS
Royal Oak School (ROS) Council and Fundraising Society welcomes all new and returning students and their families for the 2026-27 school year.
What is ROS Council? A group of parents and guardians – like you! – who meet monthly to plan, share ideas, and learn about how to improve student experiences at ROS. ROS Council volunteers receive support and leadership from ROS staff including Michelle R. (Principal) and Nadine D. (Vice Principal), the Board of Trustees, and the Community of School Councils.
In total last year, 117 parents and guardians volunteered their time to 30 ROS student and family events. This means that about one in four families had at least one parent or guardian volunteer their time in some way. For any parents/guardians who are interested in becoming a new volunteer at ROS in 2026-27, please log-in to MyCBE to apply for a police intervention check.
ROS Council and Fundraising Society sends a heartfelt thank you to all families who supported ROS last year by volunteering and/or donating. Your support made a positive difference in the lives of ROS students. A special thank-you to departing committee members for their time and dedicated efforts: Glenda H., Lissa S., and Marion M. A warm welcome to Lily K. (Chair), Krishna K. (Vice Chair), Kam S. and Leila S. (Fun Lunch Coordinators), Young R. (Treasurer), Jenn L. (FS Chair), and Katie S. (FS Treasurer). This year Council is looking to fill the roles of Staff Appreciation Coordinator, Safety Team Coordinator, Secretary, and Casino Chairperson. No prior experience needed.
All parents and guardians are welcome to join the ROS Council and Fundraising Society meetings. Formal participation is not required; drop-ins welcome! Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm at ROS, except in September which takes place on Sept. 9, 2026. Meeting attendance or special qualifications are not required to be part of Council; CBE considers all parents and guardians as Council members. If you would like to reach out with any ideas/questions or want to find out more about how you can get involved, email ROSchoolCouncil@gmail.com or visit the ROS website.
New in 2026-27 at ROS!
Check out the new ROS volunteer-led Parent Lending Library that offers a selection of highly rated parenting books. ROS Council received funding for this library in the 2025-26 school year from the AB Student Council Engagement Grant. All ROS parents and guardians are welcome to borrow books. It is located at the front entrance near the main office. Thank you to Rachel D. for lending ROS a bookshelf for the new library!
