Week of Dec. 16 – Caroling will alternate between AM and PM so Kindergarten can attend.  Those who do not take part in caroling will have alternate activity in the Learning Commons 

Dec. 20 – Last Day before winter break 

Winter Break – Dec. 21 – Jan 5  

Jan. 6 - Classes Resume 

 

 

Staffing updates

As we have increased in enrollment, our fall budget has allowed us to hire the following:

We would like to welcome Ms. Clare Spalding as an additional teacher to the PM Kindergarten team.

We would like to welcome Ms. Brooklyn Hatch as an additional teacher in the AM for working with the grade 4 classes.

We would like to welcome Ms. Sidrah Khan as an additional meal supervisor.

We are still in the process of hiring an additional 15 hour per week Educational Assistant.

 

The principal position at Royal Oak: As I will be retiring at the end of November, there will be a retired principal filling in as principal until my position can be posted and the interview process can be followed as per the ATA collective agreement. Stay tuned for more information

 

November Conferences

Our school conferences will take place on Thursday Nov. 28 and Friday Nov. 29.  Booking opens on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6:00 PM.  To access the conference booking system, you will need to log into your MyCBE/PowerSchool account.  The link is posted below for your convenience.

Thursday 4 – 7:30 in person – No school for Kindergarten students only – Kindergarten parents, please check your child’s Google Classroom for daytime conference hours.

Child and Youth Well-Being Family and Caregiver Fall/Winter Series 2024/2025

The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in a pre-recorded and live online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and Recovery Alberta and will explore topics such as Peer Pressure, Healthy Relationships, Mental Health for Highly Sensitive Teens, and navigating Parent-Teen relationships. Click here

1)     Nov 18: Fundraising Society & School Council Meeting (6.30-8.30pm)

a.     Join us for our last meeting of 2024 and our last meeting with Mr.Hamby – let’s wish him well as he heads into retirement!

2)     Nov 21 (5.30-6.45pm): “Inside Out 2” Movie Night #1 SIX volunteers needed!

a.     These events are run entirely by parent volunteers

We need YOU! Your Royal Oak School parent volunteer teams are needing to fill these roles –

·       Fundraising Society: Chairperson

·       Fundraising Society: Secretary

o   Ideal would be to shadow this year with current team then take over roles for 2025/26 & 2026/27

·       School Council: Volunteer Coordinator

o   Work alongside Alison this year as she is in her last year with ROS

o   Ideally a current Kindergarten, Grade 1 or Grade 2 parent, with some daytime flexibility, as a 2-school year commitment (2025/26 & 2026/27) is best

o   Work as a member of the Special Events Committee to create Sign Ups and support volunteers throughout the year at ROS and School Council/Fundraising Society events
