Dear Royal Oak School Families,
The excitement and creativity were on full display on Friday as students and staff came together to celebrate Halloween! It was wonderful to see the joy, imagination, and school spirit reflected in the many creative costumes throughout the day.
A special thank you to our School Council and other volunteers for organizing a fantastic Family Dress-Up Dance on Thursday evening. The event was a tremendous success, bringing families together for an evening of fun, laughter, and community connection. We are grateful for the time, energy, and dedication of our volunteers who helped make this memorable event possible. Thank you for helping create such positive experiences for our Royal Oak community!
Ongoing Communication of Student Learning: To support ongoing communication about your child's learning, teachers will be sending home assessed samples of student work approximately every 6 weeks throughout the school year. These learning artifacts provide valuable insight into your child's progress, strengths, and next steps for growth. When these pieces come home, we encourage you to take a few moments to review them with your child. Ask them to share what they learned, what they are proud of, and what goals they are working toward. These conversations can help reinforce learning and celebrate growth. If you have any questions about the feedback provided, or if you would simply like to share a positive comment about your child's progress, please feel welcome to reach out to your child's teacher by email. Thank you for partnering with us to support your child's learning journey. Together, we can help our students recognize and celebrate their growth as learners.
Jacket Racket Winter Clothing Drive: Thank you to our Royal Oak families for your incredible generosity in supporting our Jacket Racket clothing drive! Together, we collected more than 150 items, filling 12 large garbage-sized bags with coats, jackets, snow pants and other winter essentials for community members in need. A special thank you to our Grade 4 students, who took on the important task of collecting, organizing, sorting, and counting all donated items. This hands-on experience provided a meaningful opportunity to apply their math skills through real-world data collection, graphing, and analysis. We are proud of their hard work and grateful to our entire school community for demonstrating such kindness, compassion, and commitment to helping others. Your contributions will make a difference for many families this winter!
Remembrance Day: This week, we commemorate Remembrance Day during our school assembly on Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at 11:00 am. At this solemn event, we stop to remember the sacrifices of the past and honour those who fought for our country so that we have a brighter future. Due to the limited seating capacity in our gym, this event will only be for students and staff.
Fall Break: A reminder that the CBE will move forward with the Fall Break as planned. There is no school for students from Wednesday, November 11th to Sunday, November 15th. We look forward to seeing students back at school on Monday, November 16th, 2026.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp & Todd Faunt
Principal & Acting Assistant Principal, Royal Oak School
