Dear Royal Oak School Families,
Staffing Update: We would like to let families know that our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Duque, will be away on medical leave for the next several weeks. In her absence, Mr. Todd Faunt will be serving as Acting Assistant Principal. Mr. Faunt is a retired principal who brings many years of leadership experience within the CBE, and we are pleased to welcome him to our school community during this time. We wish Mrs. Duque a smooth recovery and are hopeful that she will return by the end of October. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Open House/ Meet the Teacher: On Thursday, September 24, we invite parents and guardians to join us for our Open House/Meet the Teacher evening. This year, we are organizing the event a little differently. To ensure families receive important start of the year information, learn how to support their child's success, and strengthen the valuable partnership between home and school, classroom teachers will offer the same presentation twice during the evening. Parents may attend one of the following presentation times: 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. OR 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. If you are bringing your child to the event, please ensure they remain with you at all times and are able to sit with you during the teacher presentation, which will last approximately 20-25 minutes. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing information about the exciting year ahead.
Growing Enrollment at Royal Oak School: We are excited to see our Royal Oak School community continuing to grow, with particularly strong enrollment in Kindergarten this year. As our student numbers increase, our staff and administration are carefully reviewing our class sizes, staffing, and classroom configurations to determine how we can best respond to this growth. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through these decisions through September, with a focus on supporting our students and maintaining strong learning environments for all.
Safety Reminders – Dogs Not Permitted on School Grounds: We would like to remind families that, in accordance with City of Calgary bylaws, dogs are not permitted on school grounds. If you bring your dog during student drop-off or pick-up times, please arrange to meet your child at a location off school property and remain with your dog at all times. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all students and families.
E-Bikes and E-Scooters on School Grounds: For the safety of our students, staff and families, we would like to remind everyone that e-bikes and e-scooters are not to be ridden on school grounds. This includes the school parking lot, sidewalks and pathways around the school. Alberta legislation and local bylaws place restrictions on the use of powered transportation devices in pedestrian areas, and riding these devices around our busy school grounds creates additional safety concerns, particularly during arrival and dismissal times. We ask that e-bikes and e-scooters be walked while on school property and that families take extra care when entering and leaving the school grounds. Thank you for helping us keep Royal Oak School a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
Annual Volunteer Registration Required for All School Volunteers :To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must register with the school each school year before participating in volunteer activities. The Annual Volunteer Registration Form is valid for the current school year only. All volunteers, including returning volunteers, must complete a new registration form each school year before participating in volunteer activities. Parents and guardians can register as volunteers through the SchoolEngage tab in their MyCBE account. As part of the registration process, all volunteers must review the updated Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) requirements and sign to indicate their agreement with the conditions outlined in the form. New this year: As an additional requirement under the new POPA legislation, community members who are not parents/guardians of a child registered with CBE must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school.
Sincerely,
Michelle Ryskamp & Nadine Duque
Principal & Assistant Principal, Royal Oak School
