Dear Royal Oak School Families,
Open House/ Meet the Teacher: On Thursday, September 24, we invite parents and guardians to join us for our Open House/Meet the Teacher evening. This year, we are organizing the event a little differently. To ensure families receive important start of the year information, learn how to support their child's success, and strengthen the valuable partnership between home and school, classroom teachers will offer the same presentation twice during the evening. Parents may attend one of the following presentation times: 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. OR 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. If you are bringing your child to the event, please ensure they remain with you at all times and are able to sit with you during the teacher presentation, which will last approximately 20-25 minutes. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing information about the exciting year ahead.
Reminder of CBE Policy pertaining to Personal Mobile Devices in Schools: CBE students are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during instructional time, unless such use is approved by the teacher for learning activities, for health and medical needs and to support specialized learning needs. Personal mobile devices include any personal electronic device that can be used to communicate with or access the internet, such as a cellphone, tablet, gaming device, laptop, or smartwatch. This also may include devices capable of communicating with a PMD (e.g. Bluetooth devices) such as headphones, earbuds, or smart speakers.
Students in grades K-9 are not permitted to use personal mobile devices during the school day. Student devices brought to school must be out of sight and either powered off or set to silent. They should be left in backpacks or areas designated by teachers or better yet - simply left at home. Students who choose to bring personal mobile devices to school do so at their own risk. The security and storage of these items is the sole responsibility of the owner or user. CBE assumes no responsibility for the safety, security, loss, repair or replacement of student personal mobile devices.
Parents are asked to refrain from contacting their child/student on their Personal Mobile Device during the school day to avoid unnecessary distraction. Parents can contact the school office who can facilitate contact with their child/student during the school day, if needed.
Growing Enrollment at Royal Oak School: We are excited to see our Royal Oak School community continuing to grow, with particularly strong enrollment in Kindergarten this year and grade 2. As our student numbers increase, our staff and administration are carefully reviewing our class sizes, staffing, and classroom configurations to determine how we can best respond to this growth. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through these decisions through September, with a focus on supporting our students and maintaining strong learning environments for all. We will be sharing staffing updates in the next week or so.
Safety Reminders – Dogs Not Permitted on School Grounds: We would like to remind families that, in accordance with City of Calgary bylaws, dogs are not permitted on school grounds. If you bring your dog during student drop-off or pick-up times, please arrange to meet your child at a location off school property and remain with your dog at all times. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe environment for all students and families.

3. Oct 7 @ 6:30pm Next Parent Council meeting. The Grade 3 team will be sharing what they’re looking forward to in the year ahead.
4. Hug & Go: Thank you to all the volunteers who have been helping with Hug & Go. This is a quick drop off zone. Please do not park or leave your car in this area in the morning.
5. Parent Lending Library: Parent Council has thoughtfully selected and purchased a collection of books for our parent community to enjoy. You’ll find them on the small bookshelf near the main office. Simply sign out a book, enjoy it, and return it when you’re finished so another family can benefit from it too!
