Dear Royal Oak School Families,
With Gratitude: A heartfelt thank you to all the families who joined us for Meet the Teacher Night this past Thursday. It was wonderful to welcome so many students, parents, and caregivers into our school and to see our hallways and classrooms filled with excitement, energy, and connection. The evening provided a valuable opportunity for families to meet staff, learn more about classroom routines and expectations, and begin building the strong home-school partnerships that are so important to student success. We appreciate the time you took to visit classrooms, ask questions, and engage in conversations about your child’s learning journey. When schools and families work together, students benefit from a stronger sense of belonging, confidence, and support. We are grateful for your involvement and look forward to continuing to strengthen these partnerships throughout the year. Together, we are excited for a year filled with learning, growth, and success for all students. Thank you for being such an important part of our school community!
Orange Shirt Day at Royal Oak School – Sept. 29th: Staff and students will recognize National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on Friday, September 29, as there is no school on Sept 30th. Please wear an ORANGE (or Orange-ish) shirt on this day or your favorite shirt. Classes will take up the topic of the day in various ways that are appropriate to their age and maturity. This may include sharing a piece of literature of to help students connect and reflect on the Residential School experience, sharing a video to help students recognize the importance of Truth and Reconciliation, and/ or sharing an oral story that helps children recognize and express gratitude for the gift of a warm and loving learning community at Royal Oak School. Our grade 4 students will be leading us in thoughtful assembly that day at 2:15pm. Due to the limited capacity of our gym, we will be unable to accommodate additional guests or family members in our audience.
Growing Enrollment and Staffing Update: As our student enrollment continues to grow, we are pleased to share that we have added staffing to further support student learning across our school. These additional supports allow us to provide smaller instructional groupings, targeted interventions, and increased assistance for students and staff across a variety of learning environments. As part of this change, Mrs. Cook will transition to the role of Class Size Reduction and Numeracy Intervention Teacher, working with students in smaller groups and supporting numeracy learning across the school. Mrs. Facca will assume the full-time Grade 2 teaching role in Room 2 and has already been working closely with our Grade 2 students and staff since the start of the school year. We are also excited to welcome Mrs. Duong to our Educational Assistant team. She has already been supporting our kindergarten team, and know she will be a wonderful addition to our school community and an excellent support for our students and staff. In addition, as enrollment in Kindergarten continues to increase, we anticipate adding another teacher to our Kindergarten team in the near future. We look forward to sharing further updates as staffing is finalized. With these changes, our goal is to minimize disruptions for students, maintain stability in their learning environments, and provide additional support where it is most needed throughout the school. We are committed to ensuring smooth transitions and continuity of learning for all students. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we respond to our growing enrollment and work to provide the best possible learning opportunities for all learners at Royal Oak School.
Picture Day: On Wednesday, October 7th, Royal Oak School students will have their individual photos taken. For these events to go smoothly, we are asking for volunteer assistance! Picture Retake Day is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4th. ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A VALID POLICE CLEARANCE initiated through the CBE/ROS (contact Leah Milne at ljmilne@cbe.ab.ca) and submitted their ANNUAL VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FORM (confidentiality form) via myCBE/PowerSchool (Student and Parent / Legal Guardian Sign In (cbe.ab.ca)). Volunteers will bring classes to the gym according to the schedule provided by the school, help students form line ups, check hair and wardrobe for anything that might need to be cleaned up before each students picture and help calm student nerves by providing words of encouragement or having them practice their smiles. Annual CBE Online Forms - NOW OVERDUE! Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms that have now shifted to an online format (SchoolEngage) are:
· Demographic Verification 2026-27: This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
· Citizenship Information Update 2026-27: This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
· Annual Authorization 2026-27
SchoolEngage is one of the applications found in your MyCBE account. This is the same account that you use to pay fees, view academic information, book school conferences, etc. If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video). These forms are mandatory every year for Alberta Education to confirm student funding.
Steps to help with Completing Online School Forms
1. sign in to your MyCBE account
2. click on the SchoolEngage icon
3. select the form
4. complete or review and update the form
5. click on Submit to send the form electronically to the school
If you do not see any outstanding forms for your child, please ensure that you have added them to your MyCBE account. Once added, you will have access to their outstanding forms.
International Walk to School Day October 7, 2026: International Walk to School Day gives children, parents, teachers and the community an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking. In 2011, millions of children, parents, and community leaders from 40 countries around the world joined together in celebration of International Walk to School Day in October. We know that many of our students and families already walk to school on a daily basis already. However, if this is not part of your normal routine, we encourage you to try to fit this into your schedule next Wednesday.

You’ll find them on the small bookshelf near the main office. Simply sign out a book, enjoy it, and return it when you’re finished so another family can benefit from it too!
